Why it was needed

Aberdeen Arts Centre wanted to create a lasting record of its history and recognise the people, performances and experiences that have shaped the venue over the years.

The documentary needed to look beyond the building itself and show why the Arts Centre continues to matter to performers, audiences and the wider community. It features actress Laura Main, known for roles including Call the Midwife, alongside contributors with personal connections to the venue.

As the Centre faced an uncertain future, a separate video was also required for the Save Aberdeen Arts Centre campaign. This needed to explain what was at risk, build public support and give the campaign a clear message that could be shared online and through the media.

02

What we did

Identified the central themes, contributors and moments that would connect the Centre’s history with its continuing cultural importance.

01

Conducted interviews and heard stories from people connected to the venue, including Laura Main, to show the influence the Arts Centre has had across different generations.

02

Recorded footage of the building, performance spaces and supporting material to create a documentary that feels both reflective and relevant.

03

Produced a focused video for the Save Aberdeen Arts Centre campaign, giving supporters, local media and the wider public a clear account of why the venue needed their help.

03

The outcome

The documentary provides Aberdeen Arts Centre with a lasting record of its history, cultural contribution and connection with the people who have passed through its doors. The separate campaign video helped take that story to a wider audience, including coverage on local television, and supported a fundraising campaign that has raised more than £150,000 to date.
